I paint in order to tell a story, convey a mood or evoke an emotion. For me... painting is a tool of communication... just as one would talk, sing, play or dance! When I paint I am endeavouring to describe the world in which I live. My paintings are not traditional watercolor ...but rather ...modern watercolor! Realism isn't my intention... and hasn't been my aim... I am more interested in the mood of the thing. However the inspiration comes to me, I will try to tell it from the heart... not just the way it is... but the way it is to me...

I paint mostly in transparent watercolour...a medium that can be as demanding and temperamental as those who choose to paint with it! <grin> But it is also a colourful and exciting medium, very well suited to expressing the many moods of the tropics. Watercolour has an economy of means, a beautiful eloquence unmatched by other mediums.

Over the past 10 years I've gained invaluable knowledge through classes and workshops here in Australia, in New Zealand, and also in the United States. In addition...books have been my trusted friends in the “getting of watercolor knowledge”!

My home in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland Australia is daily inspiration for me, along with my family and everyday life in this beautiful place. The visitors who come here from all over the world, along with the many colourful local characters who call this place home, add a richness and diversity to the cosmopolitan atmosphere and lifestyle that we enjoy here in the North.

"The light here is beautiful... dazzling and illuminating. The clear sharp focus of the day fades in long shadows to the soft fuzzy pinks of the evening...and the clear blue sea beckons the eye to a strip of bright water at the horizon, where scattered islands shimmer like precious jewels.

After the heat of summer, the monsoons bring torrential rain to the jungle-clad mountains... heavy with cloud... and after the rain tendrilous mist rises in fine threads from the valley floor...

everywhere... the scent of frangipani... and a thousand exotic fragrances emanating from the garden...

It is here that I find my inspiration... it is here that my heart has found it's home..."
